Pat Baldwin
Director of Beyond U and Volunteer Services for the Hannan Center
Pat is the Director of Beyond U (a life-long learning and creative aging program) and Volunteer Services for the Hannan Center.
Pat has worked in aging services and programs for 25 years.
She is a founding member, past Vice-Chair and Chair for MiGEN, formerly known as SAGE Metro Detroit. She currently enjoys Emeritus status with MiGEN. She also is on the Board of Directors for SOARLLI (Society of Active Retirees Lifelong Learning Institute), and MASC, Michigan Association of Senior Centers. She is also a member of the Art of Aging Committee for the Institute of Gerontology. Pat is a mentor in the American Society on Aging Fellows program.
In the past, Pat has sat on various Community Benefits committees. She was a member of the Lifelong Learning Council for the American Society on Aging. She was the first Black woman to be voted onto the Michigan Pax Christi Board, an international peace and justice organization. She interviewed for an Op-ed article that appeared in the Free Press stating why she believed the LGBTQ community should be a protected group under the Elliot-Larsen Act. She also interviewed for a SAGE National article on why she is an ally to the LGBTQ community.
Pat has participated in many social justice causes, but the LGBTQ elders are near and dear to her heart.
She believes her job is not just a job, but a calling to help older adults realize that older adulthood is not the epilogue, but the next chapter.
On a personal note, Pat has been married to the same wonderful man for almost 40 years, has four children, and five wonderful grandchildren. She is a School Board member at the school her two grandsons attend. She also volunteers at her parish’s food pantry.
