The End Of The Drought
Rain said Bob, let’s call it rain
Relief said Janet. Andrew agreed, relief looks pretty good
The end of the drought, said Barry and everyone agreed.
This is the end of a long hot summer that had been drought, said Barry and it was like that last one we had here a while back.
They’re in the city said Janet, but it could be anywhere
It looks like the square over at the ‘Port. Said Vale
And they were all down there for a swim and then it rained, said Coral. I remember rain after the drought and we all used to jump up and down in the puddles
I jumped in puddles when I was a kid, said Bob.
They’re dancing in the puddles said Janet
They look happy added Vale
Its heavy rain, according to Andrew, and that feller there looks like he’s having a bath in it
Or a shower, said Vale. He looks like he needed a shower, she added
His name is Michael, said Janet, Michaels are always looking for a good shower
He looks like he’s happy said Vale. The all look happy
Its heavy rain and it’ll soon be cold, said Bob
The grass smells musty Barry said. It always smells musty after rain
He looks like he’s falling over, said Andrew. That Michael, looks like he might fall any minute
He yelling out, he’s so happy, said Bob
I think they’re all calling out. Said Janet. They’re all so happy
Some of them look like they’re dancing said Bob
They could be dancing a jig said Andrew
I think that they’re just stomping up and down in the puddles added Bob
And their shoes squelch said vale. They fill up with water so much they squelch.
I think that they will have to go home and dry out, added Coral, they’re too wet now
Been dry for a long time, said Bob and now they want to play in the puddles
That lady’s shopping will be wet, said Janet, I hope her food doesn’t spoil
She doesn’t care, said Andrew, its soggy already, that’s heavy rain.
Some of them are singing, said Vale
Singing in the rain, added Barry. They danced when they made ‘singing in the rain’. Who was that?
Singing in the rain? That was that actor feller who used to sing and dance, said Andrew…
They’re not dancing. They’re jumping in the puddles, said Bob. I used to jump in the puddles after the rain and mum used to go crook
They’re going to stay here for a while and celebrate, said Coral
Then they’ll go home and get warm, added Janet Michael looks like he’s going to get very cold.
It’s been hot added Barry; you can see that it’s been hot because they’re all out in the rain. That’s what we sued to do at the end of a drought.
It’s the end of a drought. Said Andrew
It could be a shower on a very hot day, said Vale, perhaps it was just a hot day.
It’s a hot day today, said Janet, but I don’t think it’s going to rain
It’s not going to rain, said Bob, my hips not aching.
(Image # 34 - Time was just on 1 hour and I’m sure that one or two of the story tellers wanted to show how they jumped up and down in the puddles when they were kids. They couldn’t quite let go of their walking frames to give it good expression, but they certainly enjoyed the story, particularly as we are currently experiencing one of the hottest summers on record).
