Pleased with Himself
He’s just coming from the pub. Poor thing, he’s feeling sick. He has a sore neck. “Like me,” says Maria. He’s in good company!
He’s singing: “Daisy Daisy, Give me your answer do! I’m half crazy, All for the love of you!”
He might have slept wrongly on his neck overnight. His name is Paul Casanova, or “Pauly Baby”! He has a sore neck.
Paul is holding a cloth to his neck because he is hot and sweaty. It must be summertime. He’s on the train. He’s drunk too much Ouzo!
He is going home. He’s got a family. It wouldn’t hurt if he went home to his family! If he goes to the doctor, the doctor would fix him up properly—no trouble any more!
Paul is going home and his wife is making him dinner. He has grown-up children. He’s close to 40 years of age.
It could be morning because he’s holding a newspaper and there are Cornflakes behind him. Paul might be late coming home. He might get a punch from his wife! She’s upset! But he’ll say sorry to his wife and she may forgive him because she loves him!
She might have got bored at home and gone out herself. She might have gone to the pub to have a drink, or, perhaps she’s gone to bring him home! Some women don’t get past the doorway!
Paul wouldn’t be welcome if he comes home fully grogged! Tony thinks we might be having it on a bit, and Paul hasn’t done any of this. John agrees. He thinks Paul hasn’t done anything wrong, he was just at the pub!
When asked if Paul will get in trouble when he gets home, Maria G. smiles and makes a gesture with her hand. Sandra thinks it looks like she’s holding a frying pan. Maria G. agrees with Pam that he might get in trouble!
Maria B. thinks the wife will say “I love you, Paul, very much”. Crissie thinks Paul will fall asleep quickly anyway. He will probably bring something nice home for the kids. We think he’s a good gu. He’s a tidy-looking man even though his necktie is loose because it’s hot.
Paul is contented with himself. All he needs is to sit down in an easy chair and sleep. Then, when he wakes up, it will start all over again!
