New Library for Newport
This story takes place in Newport, Massachusetts in 1845.
The two women are known as "The Ladies of Newport."
The lady on the right is Mary Windsor.
The lady on the left is Eleanor Fitch.
Mary wants to build a new library for Newport and is socializing with Eleanor to get her support for funds, since Eleanor's husband is owner of the largest fishing company in Newport.
Eleanor is very happy and pleased that Mary approached her. Because she thinks a library would expand opportunities for children and workers to learn more about Massachusetts, the United States and other countries around the world and especially the writings of American literary masters.
Eleanor and her husband have four children, ages 5, 7, 9 and 11.
They live in a large house, a captain's mansion, on the ocean.
Mary is a widow. She has three grown children. They all live in Boston.
Mary's daughter is a nurse at the Normal Hospital in Boston.
Her eldest son is an attorney at Windsor, McPhiel and Hugh in Boston.
Her youngest son, Donald, is a student at Boston College. He is in his second year and plays on the hockey team.
Mary and Eleanor came to the park after having tea.
Mary asked Eleanor to come to the swing because she wanted to talk to her about a project that the town needs.
When they returned home, Eleanor talked to her husband about Mary's idea.
I don't know if Eleanor and Mary were able to build the library together.
