Midnight Sunshine
I leaned out the window at a red light to get a breath of fresh air and there he was. They call him Midnight, but I call him Sunshine. We met in the park when we were young pups. He bit my ear and pushed me over.I wrestled him down and we rolled over and over in the dirt. A memorable start to a great friendship. Here I was, 3 years later, panting and so hot in this car that smelled like last nights vegetable soup. "Sunshine,"I said, "How are you? Can we see each other soon? I miss you! Where are you going? Why can't you come with me?" "I miss our days together roaming the neighborhood. Come jump out now. Lets go! The lights about to change. I love you! I will find you, I promise. I still have the stone you gave me. I buried it under the porch with the other special things.Rough, rough, rough....."
I am always going somewhere that they take me to. Sometimes I like it but sometimes I don't. I need my freedom, I need to live like a free dog! I need to make my own decisions! After a while we arrived, I jumped out of the car and looked around, hoping to see Sunshine. We were in a big park, the children threw me the stick and I ran, I couldn't help myself...I loved them too, and after several hours, we all collapsed. I fell into a deep sleep.I dreamt of Sunshine, cool water, rocks and garden snakes. Their excited voices woke me up, the children were screaming, Midnight, Midnight, Midnight's here! Wake up Golden! they shouted. I opened my sleepy eyes and there was Sunshine, standing over me! We played, talked about old times shared a bone and napped. It was a good day. My heart was happy and we vowed to meet soon again.
