Lugging the Lamb
June 11, 2019
By the storytellers of the Huntington
My God, it's a goat!
He's on the lam.
He's a messenger boy - Charlie Chum is a delivery boy (he delivers lambs). I don't think the lamb's gonna like it though 'cause it's lamb chops. Charlie is sitting on the bike and he's got his watch on.
He likes the bicycle ride though - Leroy the Lamb.
Charlie is delivering it to the slaughterhouse.
Maybe that's why Leroy has that look on his face. Charlie appears to be under a little pressure.
It's going to be lamb chops at the Huntington. We gotta get some mint jelly.
He looks like a very nice lamb - he's got a sweet face.
The boy on the bike is 22 years old. The lamb is 36.
Charlie has been a delivery boy for 4 years. He feels terrible taking the lambs to the slaughter. He kind of feels badly about doing it.
He'd rather be swimmin' in the ocean.
Charlie wants to be a lifeguard on the ocean.
Charlie wants to be a lifeguard on the ocean.
Charlie has to go back to the meat place 'cause they're gonna have lamb chops.
He's reading Slaughterhouse 5.
The lambs are very fond of him - they think they're just going for a bicycle ride.
Charlie's family might be of Chinese derivation. He delivers clean clothes from the laundry when he's not delivering lambs.
The lamb is very happy because he doesn't know what's going to happen.
It takes 27 minutes to ride there and 27 minutes back. He makes 4 trips a day. It's a very sad job.
To make it less sad, he takes a couple of carrots along, takes a hairbrush, and a crying towel for when the lambs cry. They do cry, they baa.
Baa baa black sheep have you any wool? Yes, sir. Yes, sir: Three bags full. One for my master and one for my dame. One for the little one who lives down the lane. Baa baa black sheep have you any wool? Yes, sir. Yes, sir: three bags full.
Leroy is multicolored - gray, brown. He has a white nose and a dark neck. He's looking good.
They're in a city in Asia.
Charlie has a very nice bicycle. It cost $104. It converts to a motorcycle.
There's a holder on the back to hold his bag.
First, Charlie got Leroy up and fed him so he would be healthy, but then they found out they were having lamb chops and they all felt sick.
Little lambs eat ivy. Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy. A kid'll eat ivy too. Wouldn't you?
He's a very talented lamb - a happy little lamb.
There's no rope holding the lamb to the boy's back - he has to dig in the that boy's collar.
That's not a little lamb either, that's a big lamb.
27 pounds - that's big.
The gas can on the rack in the back is absent, missing.
Charlie and Leroy are very close - he's very sad.
People at the Huntington are gonna be happy for lamb chops though.
We hear baa, baa, a few cries.
He's not looking forward to it - he's clinging to his master, it's nice.
Charlie could fall off his bicycle (but he didn't get hurt) and the lamb skirted very quickly away down an alley.
He was on the lam.
He didn't know what he was gonna do.
He chases away the birds.
Several cars honk their horns and he runs away.
Charlie doesn't try to find him. It's better that he's free.
Charlie decides to become a lifeguard.
They both lived happily ever after.
