“La Vie En Rose” -or- The Dilemma
“LA VIE EN ROSE” -or- THE DILEMMA
By Sharon, Carol, Emily, Lois, Sharon, Hope, Ron and Joan aka “The Luther Manorians”
Eloise and Emma are either mother and daughter, or sisters, or just really good friends. Emma is the older of the two at any rate, but most probably not the mother. Some authors see a shadowy third figure in the painting. More about that later. Eloise and Emma have met to have a quick meal, but Emma has something on her mind. She should warn Eloise about a man that they both know, but she has her reasons for not wanting to do so. The ladies are enjoying the beautiful weather and the sights and sounds of the spring day. They have just come from either the furrier or the milliner or perhaps both places. They are very well dressed after all! They live in either Paris (hence, the French title) or Italy. The time frame is the 1800’s, probably between 1860 and 1900. After this, they are planning to walk to the art museum. They may want to walk there down the avenue to look at the sculptures, or just to “look for guys”. Some say that they will need to take a trolley or hansom cab because the museum is far away and their beautiful clothes could get dirty. The reason Emma wants to warn Eloise is that she is seeing a young man who is a scoundrel. What Emma does not know is that Eloise is with child. Emma and Eloise’s relationship is very complicated, as they have both been in love with the same man, whose name is Tomas. The scoundrel is named Romano and he is either part of a band of gypsies or a circus performer. Emma’s dilemma is this: if she warns Eloise about Romano, Eloise may go back to Tomas. That would not do, because Emma wants to have Tomas all to herself and considers him to be a perfect match! Yet Emma is a goodie two shoes, and wants to do the right thing. On their way to the trolley station, the girls come across a group of gypsies and Romano is there. Will Eloise go with him? Will she tell him about the baby? Or will Emma warn her that Romano is no good? Some of our authors saw a shadowy figure listening in to the girls’ conversation. Could this be their mother? Will their mother step in and order the girls to return home to sort everything out? As several authors said, this is a soap opera, and we will have to tune in again to find out!
