Get Together
Facilitated by Pam with Pearlie, Darius Quadear, Cleveland, Ms. Moore, and Fred
It’s a family reunion. The aunty is coming out the door. There’s a boy in the window. They are barbecuing. The four kids are playing and there’s a dog.
This is a family cookout, a family get together. It’s spring. The weather is sunny or very cloudy. It’s summer time. You can tell because of the grill and the windows are open.
Grandparents are on the porch swing. Or maybe it’s a young couple, Mr. and Mrs. Brown. The lady with the food is Nanna. Grandad is grilling. Anna and Joe are playing on the swing. They are twins. The other kids are LeBron and Madea. The dog is called Daddy Dog. It’s a cane corso, a big dog from South Africa.
An Alabama farm really looks like this. It also looked like this on Oakland Street.
Grandad is making ribs. There’s a bowl of chicken. He has a beer or water to drink. He’s cooking corn too.
The family is hoping it don’t rain and that the food is good. They are hoping for company.
There’s also a dirt road or maybe those are mini rocks. On the top of the barrel by the house is a bathing tub. Used to be that people took a bath in the same water.
The girl on the porch as a doll. We remember when we used to sit on the porch picking peas and watching the kids. No one would mess with you. Can’t do it now. Those were the good old days.
