Elma and Thelma
as told by the University Gates Storytellers: Bev, Marg, Marjorie, Dori, Lillian, and Tecla ....
Look, they're hims and hers! Looks like two ladies though. Their skirts are blowing up! The wind blows up your skirt and you can't help it! They finally realized they could be helped by women. On special occasions, you'd wear long gowns.
"Knees up Mother Brown" - its a song you know! I think she's Thelma. They're trying to live! They're on a swing ... they're on a swing, sitting still. And they have shoes that tie up. They're on a farm or somewhere else nice. This photo says 'George Eastman' on it!
They have hats - we wore hats to church because it's respect! If you go to a wedding, you wear a hat but you have to use some common sense! Men take off their hats for respect.
They have sand - maybe they're at a beach. You wouldn't go to a beach looking like that! Maybe they're fugutives? The other one is Elma for sure! There's a roof over them. Black skirts and black hats and a white shirt. Looks like a pin on their neck. Or maybe even a scarf?
Maybe they're going to a funeral? Maybe they're going to their own funeral, ha, ha, ha! I wear black to funerals. Well I sure did too! It's all about respect! They used to have stockings - you wore them - you didn't have bad legs, it's just respect! Pantyhose are part of your dressing.
They're actually men dressed like ladies! They're at Lake Ontario maybe? They at the cottage - do people still have cottages? At Lake Huron! One is a girl and one is a man. Look at those hats - they wouldn't have been at a beach like that? I think they're at home - I don't know them but still think they're two men!
