Make Up a Story
Stories from Around the World
Donald Trump’s Precursors
This takes place in the park at Atlantic City or at the beach because it looks real sandy. This is at Salt Aire in Salt Lake City, Utah. It could be the turn of the century or maybe 1860’s. It’s the month of July, it doesn’t look cold, and they look relaxed where they are sitting down.
They could be sisters posing for the camera. They have been stood up by dates that didn’t show up and there they will be. They met during tea at the Waldorf or at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC. They met on the job and maybe we should not say what they do for a living!I think they are waitresses.
They are looking at something and facing the sunshine. They are looking at the water. They are looking at a man. They are looking at a book maybe a Bible on their lap. They could be suffragists. They look contented. They feel happy and confident. They are at a special occasion and it’s a wonderful time.
One says to the other, “I thought they said your name was John not Joan!” They are dreaming of dancing. One says, “I know where you can get a good Manhattan on the rocks in Tijuana Mexico.” They want to rest. They are dreaming about going to college. They will surely go to college but they might be kind of old for that.
They are relaxed and enjoying the beach. There may be a photographer present. Their children might be there too. One says, “They said they were shipping out.”
I hear the wind, music from that era, the wind blowing, birds, and kids making noise, a steamboat whistle, a horse drawn carriage and the ocean. I smell springtime and its blossoms, mothballs from clothing stored in a closet, cooking smells, and the light scent of perfume.
They might get up and dance. They are waiting for their boyfriends. They are being patient and waiting for the right man. They would like to have a few drinks and go dancing. They could be less posed and more natural. They are going swimming. I don’t care what they say bathing suits would have been cooler!
