A Walk in the Park
There is a pig or groundhog who is a boy or a girl named Joe or Josephina. There is also a girl named Cowgirl who is 14 years old. They met at the fair and they are friends.
They are being fenced out of something and are going on a bike ride to a park, farm, or fair to sell pickles and meet friends. They want to sell pickles because they have a jar full of them that they got from a pickle farm.
The year is 1956 in Texas. It’s Fall, and it’s 90 degrees out, which is pretty cool weather for Texas. Around them is a mesh wire fence, plants on top of the fence, and trees in the back. They are on the farm, so they see the fence, trees, cows, horses, and pigs.
Cowgirl has 2 sisters, 1 brother, a mother, and a father who are all in jail for stealing the pickles from the pickle farm. Cowgirl got the pickles from her parents. They also bought Cowgirl the bike. “It’s a tricycle,” exclaims Marie. Her parents are lawyers and raise homeless children. They stole the pickles because they were hungry. The pickles taste good, sour, sweet, salty, and multi-flavored. It smells like spicy pickles and funky. The pig is oinking, there are bird sounds, no sound, and screeching sounds from the bike.
Cowgirl is deep in thought. She is thinking, “This little pig went to the market. This little pig went home. This little pig is a boogy woogy thing so it boogied on home,” sings Barbara.
“Cowgirl might be a German girl because she is wearing a Dirndl or Lederhosen,” states Tom.
Her and her family are in Texas because “Texas was settled by Germans,” explains Sidney.
Cowgirl and Joe/Josephina are watching out to see if the police catch her to give testimony against her parents. “She’ll run away if the police catch her,” says Audrey.
