A Rainy Day
It was Monday, the beginning of another work week, in Brooklyn. It was raining, and I was getting wet. I got an umbrella to go to work. I worked in a factory, that made balloons. Not any kind of balloons, but advertising balloons.
The year was 1986, and it was 7:30 in the morning. I am a creative artist, and have to come up with creative and clever phrases to put on the balloons. Our clients expects originality. I work with the wealthy, and today I must come up with a new design for an advertisement featuring hats.
The other day, I was told if I don't come up with something original I may have to be let go. So, I consulted with my adviser to help me find a suitable phrase. The phrase I came up with was " Wear this hat to look stylish and elegant"!
This phrase was not good enough, for my boss. I said to myself,Mary Irene Esaitier, you must come up with a better phrase! I came up with the new phrase "Cover your head with the best hat money could buy"! The hats were stetson hats. This phrase meant with my boss approval, and earned me a raise.
