Meet the Student Artists in Residence – May 14 at noon (Central)
May 5, 2020
Since September, seven University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student Artists in Residence, or SAIRs, started living and working in communities across the Milwaukee area to create collaborative works of art. The TimeSlips SAIR model lays a foundation for univiersites and senior living communities to partner, place student artists in live-in residencies, and foster community through creative engagement programming.
Traditionally, the SAIR program at UWM has been partnered with solely senior living communities. This year, one of the seven students also partnered with Islands of a Brilliance, an organization that promotes creativity, connection, and engagement with youth and young adults living with autism through the use of art, design, and STEM-based content.
In normal circumstances, the UWM SAIRs would put together a public group exhibition called Flourish Fest, documenting their year’s worth of work and giving an opportunity for the seniors, students, and larger community to celebrate their work. This year, due to COVID-19, students had to move out of residence early and the in person celebration is moving to virtual.
Please join us for a webinar to meet the the SAIRS and learn about how they navigated their time working in senior as well as neurodiverse communities.
